The Uplink is published by Gregory S. McNeal. This page explains what the site collects and what happens to it.
What the site collects
The Uplink does not run analytics software and does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Comments are turned off, so the site collects no names, email addresses, or other information through comment forms. WordPress, the software the site runs on, may set a cookie if you sign in as an author or administrator. Readers are never asked to sign in.
Server logs
The site is hosted by Pressable. Like any web host, Pressable records standard server logs: the IP address making a request, the page requested, the time, and the browser reporting it. Those logs exist for security and troubleshooting. The Uplink does not use them to build reader profiles.
If you write to The Uplink, your message and your address are used to answer you and for nothing else. They are not sold, rented, or added to a mailing list unless you ask to be added.
Links and embedded content
Articles link to other sites and sometimes embed content from them, such as a video or a post from a social platform. Once you follow a link or an embed loads, that site’s own practices govern what it collects. The Uplink has no control over them.
Changes
When The Uplink adds a newsletter or any other service that collects reader information, this page will be updated before that service goes live.
